The Logan County Sheriff’s Office began investigating Schoen in mid-June after they were contacted by school officials regarding an inappropriate relationship with a student.

Dr. Rick Smith, Superintendent of Ohio Hi-Point Career Center has released this statement:

Tanner Schoen, OHP’s Agriculture instructor at Indian Lake High School, submitted his resignation on July 6, 2023.

In June, I was made aware of allegations that Mr. Schoen had an inappropriate relationship with a student. Indian Lake Superintendent Rob Underwood and I immediately contacted the Logan County Sheriff’s Office and removed Mr. Schoen from access to any students while the investigation was ongoing.

We received information today that Mr. Schoen was criminally indicted related to these allegations.

We are outraged by the accusations against Mr. Schoen. We hold our staff to the highest code of conduct, and this alleged behavior is unacceptable and betrays the trust of our students, families, and communities. The safety and security of students will always be our highest priority. We encourage everyone to continue to follow the district’s “see something, say something” practice so we can actively address any issues and provide a safe learning environment for everyone.

Schoen has been employed by the Ohio Hi-Point Career Center since July 1, 2017, and is formerly from the Bellevue, Ohio area.

Previously Schoen was the Agriculture Educator at Felicity Franklin High School in Felicity, Ohio from 2015-2017.

Schoen is a 2015 graduate of The Ohio State University and a 2011 graduate of Bellevue Senior High School.

Schoen does not have any prior incidents in his personnel file.
