A Bellefontaine man was arrested early Thursday morning, Thanksgiving Day, after police saw him driving erratically with no headlights or taillights on Chillicothe Avenue.

At approximately 1:42 a.m., officers on patrol noticed a silver pickup truck traveling eastbound through multiple intersections without its lights on.

The vehicle failed to stop at a stop sign and appeared to be traveling slowly but unpredictably.

Officers activated their emergency lights and sirens in an attempt to stop the truck, which eventually pulled over.

The driver, later identified as 25-year-old Kyle Mullins, showed several signs of intoxication and admitted to drinking three beers and one shot of alcohol roughly 45 minutes before the stop.

Field sobriety tests conducted at the scene showed multiple signs of impairment.

Mullins was transported to the Bellefontaine Police Department, where he blew a breath test of 0.239, nearly three times the legal limit of 0.08.

Mullins was cited for operating a vehicle impaired, given a court date, and released to a sober driver.

Moments later,  a West Liberty man was arrested after a traffic stop on Colton Avenue revealed signs of impaired driving.

At approximately 1:46 a.m., Bellefontaine Police saw a tan Kia SUV traveling southbound on Ludlow Road cross over the double-yellow centerline multiple times and weave within its lane.

The vehicle was also reported to have been traveling above the 25 mph speed limit, with a recorded speed of 35 mph.

Officers initiated a traffic stop after witnessing additional lane violations.

The driver, later identified as 27-year-old Jerrod Smith,  initially appeared disoriented and had a hard time finding his insurance card.

According to the arrest report, Smith showed several signs of impairment and admitted to having “a beer or two” but denied being intoxicated.

Smith then failed several field sobriety tests then was transported to the Bellefontaine Police Department, where he provided breath samples.

Two samples registered a blood alcohol concentration of 0.123, well above the legal limit.

Smith was issued an OVI citation, his license was suspended, and he was released to a sober driver.
