Thursday marked the 24th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center in New York City, the Pentagon, and United Airlines Flight 93, which crashed in Pennsylvania.
Patriot Day is a time to remember the lives lost and honor the bravery of first responders and everyday heroes.
At Indian Lake schools, students and educators reflected on the events with thoughtful discussions.
Each school observed a moment of silence at 8:46 a.m., the exact time the first plane struck the World Trade Center.
Teachers shared personal memories of where they were and what they experienced that day.
At the high school, the Film in Literature class watched Flight 93 in the days leading up to the anniversary and discussed the movie’s “real time” depiction of the attacks.
Students reflected on the fear passengers faced and the courage it took to prevent further tragedy.
Meanwhile, 8th-grade social studies students in Mrs. Kinsey’s class explored the stories of individuals like Todd Beamer and Willy Jimeo, learning about their roles and survival during the attacks.

At Benjamin Logan High School, students paused throughout the day at the exact times of the attacks for moments of reflection, led by student leaders.
Taps accompanied each pause as a solemn tribute to the victims and heroes of 9/11.
