Despite the snow and frigid temperatures, the Logan County Commissioners honored two local veterans for their service in a ceremony in the Commissioner’s Meeting Room on Tuesday morning. The ceremony includes presenting the honoree with a flag that has flown over the Logan County Courthouse.

The Veteran honored for December is David Allinson. Allinson served in the United States Marine Corps from 1975 until retiring in 2005 at the rank of First Sergeant. He served as an Aircraft Electrical Systems Technician and a Drill Instructor before being transferred to the Iawkumi Air Station in Japan.

Allinson received several commendations, including three Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medals, 10 Marine Corps Good Conduct Medals, the Navy Arctic Service Ribbon, and the Legion of Merit Award.

Allinson, a 1975 graduate of Bellefontaine High School, met his wife, Debra, while stationed in Cuba. They have two adult sons, and they currently live in rural Bellefontaine.

Allinson talks about being honored:

The second ceremony was to honor Army Veteran Natalie Britton, who received the flag that flew over the courthouse in November.

Britton, a Belle Center resident, graduated from Hayes High School in Delaware, Ohio. She served on Active Duty from 2008 until 2013. Her awards and commendations include the Afghanistan Campaign Medal with Campaign Star, the Army Good Conduct Medal, two Overseas Service Ribbons, and the Combat Action Badge.

Britton said she isn’t often thanked for her service:
