A woman was arrested for public intoxication late Thursday night after causing a disturbance at Mary Rutan Hospital.
Shortly before midnight, officers were alerted by hospital security about Cassidy Cozad, 25, of West Liberty, who had been brought to the hospital by West Liberty Police for alcohol-related issues.
After a brief evaluation in the emergency room, Cozad was informed she would need to wait until the following day to discuss admission to a rehabilitation facility.
Frustrated, she left against medical advice, insisting on immediate treatment.
Witnesses reported that Cozad was in the hospital lobby yelling for a sandwich and appeared to be in distress.
Security personnel discovered she was bleeding from her knee, a condition that had not been present earlier.
When approached by officers, Cozad admitted to being intoxicated, and the strong smell of alcoholic drinks was evident.
She struggled to maintain her balance and expressed a desire to enter rehab immediately, despite being advised to wait for medical attention.
After several attempts to arrange for someone to pick her up, Cozad’s refusal to cooperate led to concerns for her safety.
Officers placed her under arrest for public intoxication and taken to the Logan County Jail.
Cozad was lodged on a charge of public intoxication.
