Residents in Logan and Champaign counties recovering from substance use disorders will benefit from new state funding aimed at expanding access to safe and stable housing.

The Ohio Department of Development has awarded $83,880 to support recovery housing efforts in the two-county region.

The funding is part of a larger $1.3 million investment through the Community Development Block Grant Recovery Housing Program, which provides assistance to individuals working to overcome addiction.

The grant will help provide supportive housing services for more than 50 men and women in recovery across Logan and Champaign counties.

Assistance may include rental subsidies and other resources designed to reduce financial barriers and promote long-term stability.

State officials emphasize that stable housing is a key component of successful recovery, offering individuals a structured and supportive environment as they rebuild their lives.

“Recovery can be one of the hardest journeys a person takes in their life — and we should be doing everything we can to support it,” said Lydia Mihalik. “By investing in recovery housing, we’re providing stability and dignity that can often make all the difference.”

The program is funded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and administered at the state level. Overall, the initiative is expected to assist nearly 500 Ohioans this year.
