Logan County Commissioners Joe Antram, Greg Fitzpatrick, and Mike Yoder, along with Logan County Sheriff Randy Dodds and Dog Warden Deputy Jacob Boyd, officially broke ground today on the new Logan County Animal Shelter.
The facility is being constructed on the grounds of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office and is set to address the needs of both pets and livestock involved in legal cases.
The planned shelter will be approximately 8,400 square feet and feature a range of specialized areas to support animal care.
The shelter will include:
- 23 Individual Dog Kennels: Each kennel will have access to an outdoor run area, providing fresh air and exercise. Separate sections will accommodate both smaller and larger dogs.
- Cat Area: A designated space exclusively for cats will ensure a calm and comfortable environment away from the dog kennels.
- Livestock Housing: The facility will include a section for the temporary housing of livestock involved in legal matters, such as abuse or abandonment cases.
- Visitor Spaces: Dedicated areas will allow potential adopters to interact with animals in a comfortable setting.
- Grooming, Quarantine, and Veterinary Rooms: These facilities are included in the design to support grooming, medical care, and recovery for the animals.
The shelter will be managed by Sheriff Randy Dodds and Deputy Jacob Boyd, Logan County’s Dog Warden.
Inmates from the Logan County Jail will assist with animal care, building maintenance, and cleaning during non-public hours, providing both support to the shelter and vocational opportunities for those incarcerated.
To help fund the construction and ongoing operations, the Logan County Commissioners have approved a modest increase in dog tag fees for 2025 — from $18 to $20.
This adjustment will support staffing and operational costs for the new facility.
Additionally, opportunities for public volunteers will be available once the shelter is operational, offering community members the chance to engage in meaningful work supporting local animal welfare.
