Old Man Winter was once again to blame for a series of vehicle accidents in Logan County at the end of 2025.

The first incident happened Tuesday just after 7 a.m. when Amber Bell, 24, of West Liberty, was traveling eastbound on State Route in a 2018 Honda Civic.

Bell reportedly drove off the right side of the snow-covered roadway and struck a sign.

She was not injured, but was cited for failure to control her vehicle. Her car sustained minor damage.

On Wednesday morning, just before 7 a.m., a multi-vehicle crash occurred on eastbound U.S. 33.

A 2019 Ford F-550 driven by Stanley Shafer, 60, of Bellefontaine, slowed with flashers and strobes to make a left turn into a median pull-off when it was struck from behind by a 2025 Chevrolet Silverado driven by Phillip Carson, 20, of Sidney.

A third vehicle, a 2017 Dodge Ram 1500 driven by Conor Linniman, 22, of Sidney, also struck Shafer.

Both Carson and Linniman were cited for assured clear distance ahead.

No injuries were reported, but both pickup trucks were towed from the scene.

Slushy road conditions were a factor.

Later Wednesday, just before 2 p.m., Brandy Thompson, 34, of West Liberty, lost control of her vehicle on icy conditions along County Road 1, causing her car to slide off the left side of the roadway and into nearby trees.

Thompson was not injured and was cited for failure to control. Her vehicle was towed.

The final crash occurred just after 4:30 p.m. when Thomas Fown, 63, of Bellefontaine, lost control on a sheet of ice while traveling south on Township Road 179.

His vehicle went off the left side of the road and struck a mailbox.

Fown was not injured, was not cited, and his vehicle was towed.

Logan County Sheriff’s Deputies remind drivers to exercise caution during winter weather and adjust speeds to account for slick or icy road conditions.
