September is National Preparedness Month, and the Logan County Emergency Management Agency is reminding residents that being prepared starts at home.
One of the easiest steps residents can take is signing up for Logan County ALERT, the county’s emergency notification system.
The system can send important information directly to residents during emergencies, including evacuations, shelter-in-place situations, floods, chemical spills, gas leaks, and other major incidents.
Tornado warnings are also available to residents who specifically request them.
The Logan County EMA says residents should not assume their phone number is already included in the system.
Anyone using a cell phone, an unlisted number, or anyone who has recently changed their phone number or address needs to register to make sure they receive alerts.
Registration is free.
If you receive a Logan County ALERT, officials recommend listening carefully, following the instructions, and staying on the line until the entire message is finished.
The system is just one part of Logan County’s emergency notification process.
Residents should also pay attention to local radio, the National Weather Service, and the Emergency Alert System.

The EMA says taking a few minutes now to make an emergency plan, gather supplies, and sign up for alerts can help residents and their families be better prepared when an emergency occurs.
