Communities across Logan County will come together this weekend to honor the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to the United States.
A series of Memorial Day ceremonies and parades are planned from Sunday through Monday, offering solemn moments of reflection and opportunities for community unity.
Huntsville Cemetery – Sunday, May 25
The weekend’s commemorations will begin at noon on Sunday at the Huntsville Cemetery. U.S. Army Sergeant First Class Thomas Magoto II will deliver the keynote address, offering his personal perspective on the meaning of sacrifice and service. Huntsville Mayor Mike Hyder will welcome attendees to the solemn gathering.
Rushsylvania Village Park – Monday, May 26
The Rushsylvania Lions Club will host a Memorial Day ceremony at 9 a.m. Monday in Rushsylvania Village Park. Lions Club Vice President Bill Wreede will serve as master of ceremonies, with an opening prayer by Cody Caudill and a flower tribute by Air Force Chief Master Sergeant (Ret.) Mike Wroten. Mayor Jason Miller will give the keynote address. The Benjamin Logan Middle School Band will perform patriotic music and conclude with “Taps.” Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs for seating.
Downtown Lakeview Parade – Monday, May 26
At 11 a.m., the annual Amvets Post 39 Memorial Day Parade will step off in downtown Lakeview. Participants will line up beginning at 10 a.m. at Spend-A-Day Marina at State Routes 720 and 235. The parade ends with a memorial service in the Amvets parking lot. A complimentary lunch, provided by Amvets Post 39, will follow the ceremony.
West Mansfield – Monday, May 26
American Legion Post 603 will host a Memorial Day program at 10 a.m. at the West Mansfield Conservation Clubhouse. The ceremony will include remarks by Retired U.S. Air Force Officer Tim Spradlin, musical tributes by the Community Choir, and a salute by the Legion’s Honor Guard. Little Miss Poppy 2025, Morgan Trees, will also participate. The event is sponsored by American Legion Post 603.
Bellefontaine Parade and Ceremony – Monday, May 26
In Bellefontaine, the day begins with a 9 a.m. Memorial Day Parade, starting at the American Legion and proceeding through the downtown area. A formal ceremony will follow at the parade’s conclusion.
West Liberty Memorial Day Parade – Monday, May 26
At 2 p.m., West Liberty will host its Memorial Day Parade and Ceremony. The procession begins at the old high school and ends at Town Hall, followed by a program featuring the high school band, a 21-gun salute, the playing of “Taps,” and a benediction from a local pastor.
DeGraff/Quincy Memorial Day Events – Monday, May 26
The DeGraff/Quincy Memorial Day observances begin at 10 a.m. with a parade from American Legion Miami Valley Post 652 to the local cemetery for a memorial service. A second ceremony will take place in Quincy. At noon, the DeGraff American Legion will host a community fish fry, with donations accepted. Tim Shaw of Post 652 will serve as guest speaker.
Belle Center Memorial Day Events – Monday, May 26
A parade will go from the Memorial building at 11:00 AM, go through town, and end at the Fairview Cemetery. Commissioner Greg Fitzpatrick will speak at a short ceremony complete with “Taps” and a time of prayer.
