The Logan County Mayors Association met at a round table in West Mansfield Wednesday night.
Bellefontaine Mayor, Ben Stahler, explains why this meeting is valuable:
7 cities/villages were represented from around the county:
West Liberty: The village just kicked off a new app called Feel@Home WL. The app gives users access to information, they can view the latest updates, receive notifications, and much more. The app is available to both Apple and Android users. Mayor Jill McKelvey warns folks lots of street construction will be happening all summer, and that if you are coming to the village to enjoy some shopping, catch a ballgame, or get some ice cream, to use caution and allow extra time to navigate the changes.
Bellefontaine: The city continues to battle the vultures that have taken up residence in the Whispering Pines community area. The city is hopeful that the birds will move on in the near future and are continuing to use their propane cannons each evening to startle the birds in hopes that it will happens sooner, rather than later.
West Mansfield: The village continues to battle drainage issues with rainwater in the streets. They believe that Main Street has been resolved and are now moving on to other issues within the village. Crews will be replacing a clay tile on West Center Street and hope to have that project wrapped up sometime in the next four weeks. Lastly, the village is working on replacing five aging fire hydrants.
Belle Center: The village has over 130 flags flying within its limits honoring those who have been in the military. Council members are going door to door within the village asking for income amounts from residents so they are able to apply for a grant that would assist in building a water treatment plant for the village.
Zanesfield: On July 22, 2023, the village will host a car show and block party. This is the second year for this event. The car show is a new addition and hopes to draw more interest. In September, crews will grind down and repave Sandusky Street within the village. It is unclear at this time if crews will close the entire street and knock it out, or if one lane will close at a time. Expect closures early this fall.
Russells Point: Mayor Reames is worried about the cleanliness of the Great Miami River. Recently crews pulled 6 telephone poles and a large 60-foot-long pipe out of the village’s portion of the river. When the river is clogged, it causes flooding within the village. The village is working on funding for a whole building generator to power the municipal building, to be able to operate as a heating/cooling center during extreme temperatures. The village is hopeful that construction on the Cobble Stone Hotel will be able to begin this summer.
Rushsylvania: The village has some new blood on its council and is excited about the possibility of new things coming to the village. They are looking for fresh event ideas and new people to attend their meetings.
Other departments that were in attendance and gave updates included Logan County Sheriff, Randy Dodds, Logan County EMA’s Director, Helen Norris, Logan County Economics, Ben Volrath, Logan County Heath, Travis Irvan & LUC Planning Commission, Director Brad Bodenmiller.
The group plans to meet again on July 18, 2023, in Russells Point.
