The Logan County Board of Developmental Disabilities is proud to announce that March is Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month.

During this month the Board hopes to promote understanding and inclusion while celebrating the many contributions of individuals with developmental disabilities in our community.

“As we enter March, we are excited about spreading inclusion awareness,” remarked Superintendent Oldiges. “Our collaboration with local organizations, schools, and the community has made significant strides in the developmental disabilities field. We will continue to break down obstacles while highlighting the crucial message that all voices, especially those of individuals with disabilities, are important.”

Raising Awareness and Promoting Inclusion
Throughout the month, the Logan County Board of DD will host a few activities and events designed to raise awareness for people with developmental disabilities.

These include:

  1. DD Proclamation: On Tuesday, March 4th, the county commissioners will be signing a proclamation declaring the month of March Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month in Logan County to help promote the inclusion of individuals with developmental disabilities throughout the community.
  2. Inclusive Neighborhood: Join us at the Knowlton Library in Bellefontaine on March 17th from 4:00 to 6:00 PM to help create an inclusive neighborhood by building houses with magnetic tiles. Once all structures are completed, participants will have a chance to enter a drawing for a prize! While you’re at the library, feel free to browse books focused on inclusion and explore the new sensory items added last year with support from ARPA Grant Funding through LCBDD. Additionally, you’ll have the chance to enroll in the Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library Program. Refreshments will be served.
  3. Sensory Friendly Movie: Join us on March 22nd at Cinema 8 in Bellefontaine for a Sensory Friendly Movie. Doors will open at 9:00 AM and the movies start at 9:30 AM. There will be free admission for the first 150 people, which will also include a small popcorn and medium drink. There will also be a limited supply of sensory bags that will be handed out.
  4. Community Basketball Game: The Logan County Braves Special Olympics basketball team will be taking on community celebrities in a friendly basketball game on March 20th beginning at 6:00 pm at Ben Logan High School. Donations will be accepted at the door and will go towards making Logan County Playgrounds accessible to all. Concessions will also be available.
