The Logan County Veterans Service Commission partnered with Silent Watch on Thursday for a Veteran Suicide Awareness event at Veterans Plaza outside the Logan County Courthouse in Bellefontaine.
The Silent Watch event was held as part of September’s Suicide Prevention Awareness Month.
The mission of Silent Watch is to recognize and raise awareness about the number of veteran suicides across the country.
Organizers said an estimated 22 to 25 veterans die by suicide each day.
During the event, volunteers stood at parade rest in 20-minute rotations in front of displays representing veterans who have died by suicide.
Volunteers standing watch remained silent and did not speak or gesture during their rotations.
Silent Watch also raises money to help veterans suffering from PTSD, anxiety, depression, and similar issues receive Stellate Ganglion Block injections, or SGB treatments.
Organizers said local veterans have received the treatment with immediate and long-lasting results.
The organization also encouraged the community to support volunteers by donating food and drinks during the event.
