Logan County has announced that Jacob King, of Huntsville, has been appointed as the new Agriculture and Natural Resources Educator for the Ohio State University Extension office.

King, an Indian Lake High School graduate from the Class of 2021, and a 2024 graduate of The Ohio State University with a bachelor’s degree in agronomy, will focus on enhancing both agriculture and the environment in the region through his new role.

While this position was briefly filled in 2016, there has not been a full-time, long-term educator in the county for more than 25 years.

King talks about his excitement about the position:

King’s appointment marks a significant step in strengthening the support available to local farmers and community leaders.

Ohio’s agricultural, horticultural, and forestry industries contribute over $100 billion annually to the state’s economy, and OSU Extension plays a key role in maintaining this significant economic contribution.

Through its agriculture and natural resources (ANR) programs, OSU Extension provides vital support in technology, marketing, and education, ensuring Ohio’s continued success in the global marketplace.

In addition to supporting agriculture, OSU Extension helps local communities sustain and enhance the environment by balancing economic progress with environmental sustainability.

Their efforts aim to assist Ohio’s agricultural businesses in becoming more profitable and sustainable while creating job opportunities and economic growth throughout the state.

With a focus on leadership, collaboration, consulting, and providing unbiased, research-based information, OSU Extension professionals like King are helping Ohio’s farmers and community leaders address local issues, develop new solutions, and improve the quality of life for residents across the state.

King’s first official day will be December 30th, 2024.

To welcome him, the Extension Office will host a meet-and-greet open house with cocoa and cookies from 2 to 4 PM.

The event will take place at the Extension Office, located at 1100 South Detroit Street in Bellefontaine.
