According to the Logan County Sherriff’s Office, 43-year-old Apolinario Lorenzo-Perez was arrested late Sunday evening for operating a vehicle without a valid driver’s license, driving with an obstructed license plate, and having an open container of alcohol in his vehicle.
Just after 10:00 PM on County Road 1 near State Route 245, a deputy saw Lorenzo-Perez driving with a license plate frame covering parts of the plate.
The deputy also noted that the exhaust of the vehicle was excessively loud.
When the vehicle was stopped, Lorenzo-Perez admitted that he did not have a valid driver’s license.
He then gave the deputy court documents from the Champaign Municipal Court related to a case from May 2023, that involved driving without a license.
A search of court records confirmed his conviction and it was also discovered that Lorenzo-Perez had been previously arrested in Upper Sandusky for similar charges.
An immigration status check led law enforcement to confirm that Lorenzo-Perez was an illegal immigrant and subject to deportation.
Lorenzo-Perez was arrested for driving without a license.
The vehicle was towed from the scene and when doing an inventory search, an open bottle of alcohol was found on the back seat floorboard.
Lorenzo-Perez admitted the bottle belonged to him.
He was then transported to the Logan County Jail where he was issued a citation for the license violation and open container.
Lorenzo-Perez was also placed under an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detainer.
The Logan County Sheriff’s Office is working with ICE regarding Lorenzo-Perez’s immigration status and potential deportation.
