Monday, Bellefontaine Police responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle at Mac-A-Cheek Learning Center.
The caller told dispatch that a white Dodge pickup was parked near the playground, and the driver was making erratic movements inside the cab.
Officers arrived and found the driver, later identified as Kenneth Kemmeter, 46, of Maplewood, wearing a hat and glasses.
When questioned, Kemmeter said he was waiting for his wife.
Officers noticed he showed several signs of intoxication, and then Kemmeter admitted to drinking “one beer,” later claiming it was “two beers.”
Kemmer then failed several field sobriety tests, and officers also discovered open alcohol containers inside Kemmeter’s vehicle.
A Drug Recognition Expert later noted signs of stimulant use, though Kemmeter refused a urine test.
Kemmeter was arrested for operating a vehicle while intoxicated (OVI) and an open container violation.
His license was seized, he was issued citations, then released to a sober driver and scheduled to appear in Bellefontaine Municipal Court.
