A Beaverdam man was arrested early Saturday morning for operating a vehicle under the influence after police saw his car speeding and swerving on Ludlow Road.

According to the Bellefontaine Police Department, the incident happened around 1:00 AM.

An officer on patrol spotted a black station wagon weaving between lanes and going 39 mph in a 25 mph zone.

When officers stopped the vehicle, the driver, identified as Travis Dauterman, 35, showed several signs of intoxication.

He initially told the officer he hadn’t been drinking, but later gave conflicting statements.

Police also noticed he struggled to provide his Social Security number and had difficulty answering basic questions.

Dauterman then went on to fail several field sobriety tests.

He was arrested and taken to the Bellefontaine Police Department, where he refused to take a breath test.

Dauterman was cited for speed, 2 counts of OVI, failure to control, and driving in marked lanes.

He was given a court date and released to a sober driver.
