A man was arrested Monday night after deputies found him drinking alcohol while sitting in a disabled vehicle along U.S. 33.

According to the Logan County Sheriff’s Office, deputies stopped, shortly before 9:00 PM, behind a vehicle after finding it parked on the shoulder with its hazard lights on.

The driver, 45-year-old John Carmody, of Columbus, showed several signs of intoxication.

He had a flat tire and claimed he was waiting for a tow truck after leaving a friend’s house in Lima and heading toward Columbus.

While speaking with Carmody, deputies saw three cans of beer in the passenger seat inside a six-pack.

Carmody admitted he began drinking while waiting for the tow truck and said he drank three beers over the course of an hour.

He also told deputies his driver’s license was suspended.

After Carmody stepped out of the vehicle, he failed field sobriety tests.

He was then taken into custody and transported to the Logan County Jail, where he agreed to a breath test.

The result showed a breath alcohol concentration of 0.122, just over the legal limit.

After he was unable to arrange a ride, Carmody was booked into jail on a charge of having physical control of a vehicle while under the influence, a first-degree misdemeanor.
