Ryan Wesley Routh, the man arrested following an alleged assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump, appeared in federal court this morning, facing charges related to gun possession.

Routh, 58, was brought before a judge in West Palm Beach, shackled and wearing a blue jumpsuit.

He is charged with possessing a firearm despite being a convicted felon and having a firearm with an obliterated serial number.

During the brief court appearance, Routh answered basic questions about his employment and finances.

He reported earning about $3,000 a month but has no savings or significant assets, aside from two trucks valued at approximately $1,000 each, both located in Hawaii.

Routh also mentioned supporting his 25-year-old son.

The incident occurred on Sunday afternoon as Trump was playing golf at his course in West Palm Beach.

A Secret Service agent spotted a rifle barrel protruding through the bushes about 400 meters from where Trump was playing.

The agent fired at least four rounds at Routh, who managed to flee the scene.

Routh was later apprehended while driving northbound on Interstate 95 in Martin County.

The investigation is ongoing, and further charges may be filed as authorities continue to probe the incident.
