Early Sunday morning, police and emergency crews responded after a man was found unconscious in the snow in Bellefontaine.
At around 2:20 a.m., a witness called emergency services about a man lying in the snow on North Detroit Street.
Officers arrived and identified him as 41-year-old Thomas Whitehead of Bellefontaine.
Whitehead was found in a snow-covered parking lot near a vehicle.
Officers were able to partially wake him, but he struggled to stand and needed support from a nearby car.
He appeared heavily impaired and had trouble answering questions.
Whitehead initially said he was “fine,” but later admitted he might have fentanyl.
Officers searched him and found a glass meth pipe in his pocket.
Medics took Whitehead to Mary Rutan Hospital for evaluation.
Later that morning, police issued him a criminal summons for possession of drug paraphernalia, a fourth-degree misdemeanor.
He is scheduled to appear in Bellefontaine Municipal Court at a later date.
