A Bellefontaine man was transferred to The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center after suffering second-degree burns to his back and legs in a mobile home fire late Wednesday night.
According to Bellefontaine Fire Chief Brian Wilson, crews were dispatched to the 1000 block of Garfield Avenue shortly after 11:30 p.m. following reports of a structure fire.
Upon arrival, firefighters discovered flames in the kitchen area near the stove and Richard Banks unconscious in the living room.
He was rescued from the home and transported to Mary Rutan Hospital before being transferred to OSU, where he remains in critical condition.
Fire crews were able to quickly contain the fire to the kitchen, though smoke damage affected other areas of the home.
No firefighters were injured during the response.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
The State Fire Marshal’s Office is assisting, and at this time, the fire is not believed to be suspicious.
More information is expected to be released as the investigation continues.
