| Senate Bill 207, sponsored by State Senator Susan Manchester (R-Waynesfield), continues to pick up support as it moves through the Senate’s committee process. Senate Bill 207 removes unnecessary health care administrative burdens that interrupt the continuity of care for patients. The bill prohibits health plans and Pharmacy Benefit Managers (PBMs) from discriminating against patients who use third-party assistance in helping to pay their increasing out-of-pocket expenses mandated by their coverage plans. “Decreasing the burden and stress placed on individuals in the middle of a health crisis is basic good governance,” said Senator Manchester. “Similar legislation has passed in 25 other states no matter their size or political bent. I’m proud to see that this bill is being recognized on its merits for helping everyday Ohioans.”
Introduced to the Senate at the end of September, the bill has so far received two hearings in the Senate Financial Institutions, Insurance, and Technology Committee. During its second hearing this past week, more than 25 proponents for the bill submitted testimony to the committee. The bill is still pending before the committee. |
