State Representative Ty Mathews spoke to members of the Logan County Chamber of Commerce during Wednesday morning’s Business Impact Meeting at Mary Rutan Health, giving an update on his work at the Ohio Statehouse.

One of Mathews’ top priorities is a new initiative known as the Blue Ribbon Commission, a proposal focused on improving government efficiency across Ohio.

The commission would examine opportunities to consolidate services and reduce costs for taxpayers, while still maintaining local control.

Mathews noted that Ohio currently has more taxing entities than most states — including California — and said he believes the system needs better oversight and accountability.

Mathews says that this looks at tax issues and government efficiency, and what else he is working on:

Mathews also went over his involvement in economic development efforts, the Ohio Defense Commission, and the Linked Deposit Program.

Ohio’s Linked Deposit Program helps residents, farmers, homeowners, and small businesses get lower-interest loans through participating banks and credit unions.

The program works by placing state funds into local financial institutions, allowing them to offer reduced-rate loans or higher-interest savings accounts to qualified customers.

The Ohio Defense Commission is a state body designed to support and grow the state’s defense and aerospace industry.

Mathews said he has participated in international trade discussions aimed at attracting more business to Ohio and strengthening the state’s global competitiveness.

Mathews says his continued work with JobsOhio is to help bring new investment and job opportunities to local communities.

The Chamber also announced that Chad Ross of Mary Rutan Health will be the featured speaker at next month’s Business Impact Meeting.
