Indian Lake High School has announced its March Seniors of the Month, Haylee McCafferty and Calvin Knief.
Haylee McCafferty is the daughter of Heather and Dallas Henry of Huntsville.
School Activities and awards: At Indian Lake, I have been involved in Key Club since my sophomore year and NHS since the beginning of this year. This year I was given the opportunity to represent my senior class as Homecoming Attendant. I have also been on the 3.5-4.0 Honor Roll my entire high school career.
If I were principal for a day: If I were principal for the day I would get rid of homework. I feel that being at school and learning for eight hours is enough and when kids go home they deserve some free time. Especially, if a student is in sports. Sports take up a lot of free time on top of school, homework, or a job.
Favorite school memory: My favorite school memory has to be Homecoming my junior year. For this dance, I was in a group with my friends Chloe Hodge and Emma Meyer. This was my last ever school dance with my best friend Chloe and it was also the most memorable one. These girls were always able to get me out of my comfort zone and I danced and had an amazing time this year. We even went to my favorite restaurant Texas Roadhouse for dinner. People who have been an inspiration to me include: My mom has been a huge inspiration to me ever since I was a little girl. Becoming a cosmetologist has been a dream of mine for as long as I can remember. Growing up, I was always fascinated by my mom’s profession. I would beg her to take me to work with her so I could help out around the salon, but, of course, I just wanted to go to watch her work. I would watch every step she completed from the way she would place foils into her clients’ hair to the way she applied acrylic onto a fake nail. I have now watched her grow in her career and become a successful salon owner. I aspire to be as successful as her when continuing in my career as a cosmetologist.
Lately I’ve been reading: Lately I’ve been reading books like Harry Potter, The Golden Compass, and The Lion The Witch and The Wardrobe for my English class. On top of this, my good friends got me started on a book series last summer. Before this, I was not much of a reader. They made me realize that it wasn’t that I didn’t like reading, it was just that I was reading the wrong books.
My advice to parents: My advice to parents would be to push your kids to do their absolute best. whether it is in school, their career, or a sport. Nothing is impossible.
My biggest regret: My biggest regret is not realizing that every moment with my best friend Chloe was a blessing. Life is short and you don’t know what the future holds.
Next year I will be: Next year I will be attending the Ohio State Beauty Academy to pursue a career in Cosmetology. This program takes about 11-14 months to complete. In other words, 1500 hours. After I complete this program and receive my cosmetology license I plan on starting my career at my mom’s salon. It has always been a dream to work side by side with her. I will be getting advice from the best of the best.
Calvin Knief is the son of Brian and Silvina Knief of Lewistown.

If I were principal for a day: I would enforce the dress code.
Favorite school memory: My favorite memory is all the fun times during this soccer/football season.
People who have been an inspiration to me include: People who have been an inspiration to me are my parents.
Lately I’ve been reading: The Bible
