McGuire Wins Market Beef; Dagger Takes Breeding Heifer

There was no question where the beef was last night at the Champaign County Fair as more than 30 tons of it was shown in competition in this year’s Beef Breeding and Market Beef Shows.

Callee Dagger won this year’s Champion Breeding Heifer. It was a family affair, though, as her sister Catie Dagger earned Reserve Champion honors.

Kenna Connolly took both 3rd and 4th places and Avery Randall wrapped up the top 5 finishers.

Next was the Market Beef Show, which took a wild turn in many cases as several steers felt unruly and whipped their handlers around like ragdolls. In the end, though, it was Essie McGuire who came out on top, earning Grand Champion honors with her 1, 348-pound steer. She had this to say to all those who struggled this year.

Taking Reserve Champion in this year’s Market Beef Show was Holden Levan, who is coming off a 3rd place finish with his steer at the Ohio State Fair last week.

Rounding out the top five were Sydnee Hurst, Jaycee Yelton, and Gage Stull.
