A Champaign County Grand Jury has indicted Daniel Eugene Evilsizor in connection with a June 2025 incident in which a motor vehicle allegedly struck a construction flagger working on a road paving project, the Mechanicsburg Police Department confirmed.

On June 4, 2025, Mechanicsburg Police responded to a report of a vehicle striking a flagger or construction worker who was directing traffic at an active paving site. The injured worker was reportedly managing traffic flow when the collision occurred.

Police conducted a full investigation, collecting evidence and witness statements. The results were later presented to the Champaign County Grand Jury on September 3, 2025, which returned a multi-count indictment against Mr. Evilsizor.

Evilsizor faces the following charges:

  • Count 1: Felonious Assault — a second-degree felony
  • Count 2: Vehicular Assault — a third-degree felony
  • Count 3: Failure to Stop After an Accident — a first-degree misdemeanor

The case is scheduled for a jury trial before Judge Nick A. Selvaggio at the Champaign County Courthouse, located at 200 North Main Street in Urbana. Trial dates are set for February 17–19, 2026. Evilsizor’s next court appearance is scheduled for January 23, 2026, at 8:30 a.m.

If convicted on the most serious charge, Evilsizor faces substantial penalties, including prison time and fines. The defense and prosecution are expected to focus on questions of fault, intent, and the severity of the flagger’s injuries.
