The following is a press release congratulating and announcing Mechanicsburg Superintendent Danielle Prohaska as the recipient of the Betsy Cowles 2026 Award.
At the annual BASA (Buckeye Association of School Administrators) Women in Leadership Conference held March 5–6, 2026, local Superintendent Dr. Danielle Prohaska was officially honored with the Betsy Cowles 2026 Award. Surrounded by her family, team, and peers, Danielle spoke about the conference theme Bold Moves, Brave Hearts, sharing her passion for mentorship and sponsorship to advance the voice of leaders.
This prestigious accolade is reserved for a female administrator who has demonstrated exceptional educational leadership and made significant, lasting contributions to the field of educational administration. Danielle was selected by her peers for her commitment to excellence and her ability to navigate the complexities of modern education with the same grit and vision as the award’s namesake.
The award is named in honor of Betsy M. Cowles, one of Ohio’s most formidable educational pioneers and social reformers. To receive an award in her name is to be recognized as a leader in public education and a champion for progress.
By receiving the 2026 award, Dr. Prohaska joins a lineage of leaders who prioritize students’ needs over the status quo. Much like Cowles, Danielle has been recognized for her ability to lead with both a bold heart and bold action, ensuring that educational administration remains a tool for student empowerment.
Danielle received several nominations for this award. One of the nominations read “Dr. Prohaska’s mentorship has directly impacted the quality of leadership in schools. Her ability to inspire others, ask thoughtful questions, and provide steady guidance exemplifies the very best of educational leadership.”
