Mechanicsburg woman injured after vehicle hydroplanes on State Route 29

A Mechanicsburg woman was injured Sunday afternoon after her vehicle hydroplaned while traveling on State Route 29, causing it to leave the roadway and travel through several yards.

According to the crash report from the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office, 63-year-old Irene Scott was driving a silver 2018 Honda CR-V eastbound on State Route 29 when she attempted to navigate a curve. The vehicle hydroplaned, causing Scott to lose control and leave the right side of the roadway.

The Honda struck a culvert and a cable box before continuing off the roadway and traveling through three yards. The vehicle eventually came to a stop after leaving the roadway.

Scott was suspected of suffering minor injuries in the crash. She was treated at the scene before being transported by Mechanicsburg EMS to Mercy Health – Urbana Hospital for further evaluation.

The crash was reported at approximately 12:05 p.m. Sunday, August 16. Emergency crews were dispatched shortly afterward and arrived at the scene at 12:31 p.m. The scene remained active for more than an hour before being cleared at approximately 1:49 p.m.

No additional injuries were reported. The crash was handled by the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office.
