The new Cancer Center at the Mercy Health Urbana Hospital officially cut the ribbon on Thursday afternoon.

The new center has been open since January and has already greatly advanced oncology treatments in the area. The facility, housed in the former Mercy McAuley Center, features infusion chairs, exam rooms, lab draw stations, and access to the hospital’s updated pharmacy. Patients will benefit from specialized care, clinical trials, and support through Mercy Health’s affiliation with The Ohio State University’s James Cancer Network. The center also offers financial navigation services to ease treatment costs, reflecting Mercy Health’s ongoing commitment to accessible, high-quality cancer care.

Jamie Houseman, the President of Mercy Health Urbana, says the new center has already made a massive impact on the community.

Mercy Health opened this center in response to higher-than-average cancer diagnoses and cancer-related mortality rates in Clark and Champaign Counties, as reported by the Ohio Department of Health. In line with its mission to bring “Good Help” to those in need, Mercy Health is also helping patients navigate the financial burden of cancer care, offering resources like copay cards, grants, and cost-saving programs.

In 2023 alone, these efforts helped save local patients nearly $2 million in out-of-pocket expenses.

After already making a massive impact, this ribbon-cutting opens the door for endless possibilities. The center is sure to save lives and positively change many more!
