The Logan County Sheriff’s Office was involved in a high-speed pursuit early Tuesday morning.
Deputies were sent to State Route 117 and 235 to be on the lookout for a maroon jeep which was a suspect vehicle from a theft offense from Van Wert.
The jeep was spotted on 117 near State Route 273. As deputies turned around, the jeep accelerated and continued toward Huntsville with a speed reaching over 100 mph.
The jeep ignored emergency lights and sirens, passing multiple drivers at a high rate of speed.
The driver then went through Huntsville at 66 mph in a 35 mph zone and continued onto County Road 130 before making his way to U.S. 33 from County Road 57.
At this point, additional deputies from the Sheriff’s Office and the Washington Township Police joined the pursuit.
The jeep was heading east on 33 accelerating to 105 mph.
The pursuit moved quickly through Bellefontaine and as they moved closer to the Union County line, the Ohio State Highway Patrol and Union County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched.
The jeep was still reaching speeds from 95-100 mph as they crossed the county line.
The Union County Sheriff’s Office deployed spike strips in an effort to get the jeep to stop.
The spikes were successful as the driver came to a stop, approximately two miles, after running over the strips.
Officers arrested Jonathan Chilcoat, 32, of Quincy, Michigan without further incident.
He was taken to the Logan County Jail and charged with failure to comply with the order or signal of a police officer.
Additional charges are pending.
Chilcoat’s pursuit continued for approximately 35 miles.
