A familiar landmark took on a festive look this week as winter settled across the area.

The monument of Andy Detwiler, a well-known farmer who had an impact on many people, was photographed Monday morning, surrounded by fresh snow, dressed for the season with a red-and-black scarf and encircled by colorful holiday lights.

Detwiler, who lost both of his arms at a young age, learned to handle everyday activities with his feet.

Farming was his passion, and he did everything he could to continue that lifestyle.

In 2022, Detwiler passed away, leaving a lasting impact on the community, and last year, the statue was placed in his honor.

The monument stands on the south side of West Liberty, right across the bridge heading out of town on the west side of US Route 68.
