More than 17,000 customers are without power across Logan and Shelby counties Thursday afternoon after a widespread outage that began around 2:40 p.m.

As of 3:30 p.m., the outage was affecting thousands of homes and businesses.

A possible issue involving a large AES transmission line is believed to be behind the outage, although the exact cause has not been confirmed.

Logan County Electric Cooperative says crews are out working to address the problems and restore electricity to affected customers as quickly as possible.

There is currently no estimated time for when power will be fully restored.
