A South Charleston man was seriously injured Sunday afternoon after his motorcycle struck a low-hanging powerline along U.S. 68 in Champaign County.

Troopers from the Springfield Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol were called to the scene just before 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 10, for a single-vehicle crash in the 2300 block of U.S. 68 in Urbana Township.

According to a preliminary investigation, 24-year-old Kaleb Montgomery of South Charleston was traveling north on U.S. 68 on a 2013 Suzuki GSX motorcycle when he collided with a low-hanging powerline stretched across or near the roadway.

The impact resulted in serious injuries.

Emergency crews initially transported Montgomery by ground ambulance to a nearby hangar, where he was then transferred to an air ambulance and flown to Miami Valley Hospital for further treatment.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash.

Authorities have not released additional details regarding the circumstances surrounding the downed or low-hanging line, and it is unclear what caused the wire to be in the roadway area at the time of the crash.

The incident remains under investigation by the Springfield Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
