Nearly 80 high school upperclassmen were inducted into the Logan County National Honor Society (NHS) Chapter during a ceremony held Wednesday evening at Ben Logan High School. The ceremony celebrated the academic excellence, leadership, character, and service of students from Indian Lake, Ben Logan, and Riverside High Schools.
The new inductees, all in their junior and senior years, met the rigorous standards required for NHS membership, including maintaining a high GPA, demonstrating strong leadership qualities, and engaging in community service. The ceremony focused on the core values of NHS—Scholarship, Leadership, Service, and Character—and featured speeches from school administrators, NHS officers, and faculty members.
The event was led by Erica Baer-Woods, Director of Gifted Services, and Scott Howell, Superintendent of the Midwest Regional Educational Service Center. After several short speeches that highlighted the importance of NHS’s mission, the new inductees participated in the ceremonial lighting of a candle, symbolizing their commitment to these core values.
Following the ceremony, the new members voted on officers for the upcoming school year. Riley Shaner, a junior from Indian Lake High School, was selected as Vice President. She will serve alongside President Gillian Knight from Riverside High School and Secretary Ella Chamberlain from Ben Logan High School.
As part of the event, the inductees recited the NHS pledge and received their official certificates of membership. This year’s induction reflects not only academic success but also the dedication of these students to making a positive impact in their communities.
The National Honor Society, one of the oldest and most respected student organizations in the United States, continues its tradition of promoting excellence in scholarship and service. The Benjamin Logan chapter, active for many years, remains a vital part of this mission, encouraging students to grow as leaders and community-minded individuals.
