Approximately 100 people helped open new pickleball courts at Old Field Beach State Park on a sunny Friday morning. The courts, six in all, are the result of the tireless efforts of many individuals, according to Robin Francisco and Laura Kunkle, Co-founders of the Indian Lake Pickleball Club.
Kunkle said that the group first pitched the idea of the courts to the Indian Lake Development Corporation in January of 2023. The plan detailed what they felt the addition of pickleball courts could bring to the Indian Lake area.
The corporation eventually provided the group with its initial funding, and with that, Kunkle and Francisco were inspired to expand their fundraising efforts. Francisco talks about the group’s fundraising efforts:
The group also received a Healthy Living Grant from the Logan County United Way. The group then began to receive funding from Stokes Township, the Logan County Commissioners, Open Road Renewables, and other local agencies and corporations.
The total project came in at the budgeted $330,000, aided in large part by a one-time grant from the State of Ohio Strategic Investment Fund.
Kunkle discusses the actual construction of the courts:
