A wrong-way crash on U.S. 33 early New Year’s Day resulted in an OVI arrest after a vehicle was found disabled near the U.S. 68 interchange.
According to reports, at approximately 2:25 a.m. on Thursday, the Logan County Sheriff’s Office requested assistance for a vehicle reportedly traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes of U.S. 33 near U.S. 68.
Initial information indicated the vehicle had entered the highway from County Road 57.
Belleftonaine Police found a vehicle facing the wrong direction with a single headlight visible.
The vehicle was disabled from a crash and sustained heavy front-end damage, with airbags deployed.
The driver, identified as 25-year-old Logan Holycross, of Russells Point, was conscious and waiting for law enforcement.
Officers noticed he showed several signs of impairment.
Holycross told officers he believed he had fallen asleep at the wheel and was unsure what he struck, later suggesting he may have hit another vehicle that left the scene.
He admitted to consuming one beer earlier in the evening.
Holycross then failed several field sobriety tests.
Holycross declined medical attention despite reporting minor back discomfort.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol responded and assumed the investigation.
Following additional testing, Holycross was arrested for operating a vehicle impaired, transported to the Bellefontaine Police Department, and then released to a sober driver.
