Northern Lights light up the sky Monday night

Clear, cold air moved in Monday night, creating perfect conditions to see the Northern Lights across the northern U.S.

Sources said a strong geomagnetic storm produced a big aurora show.

A solar blast occurred, triggering the lights shortly after.

Observers reported seeing the auroras as early as 6:30 PM.

In the northern U.S., people saw green and purple lights overhead.

Further south, viewers spotted green and red glows along the northern horizon.

It was extremely cold, with temperatures below 10 degrees, wind chills as low as minus 15, and gusts over 35 miles per hour.
