Northside Neighborhood Watch; Cleaning up the neighborhood seeks volunteers

The Northside Neighborhood Watch has had a busy and productive year, building on the $1,000 left by former officers to make a tangible difference in the community.

The neighborhood kicked off its efforts by partnering with Stokes Township for a large-scale cleanup, using seven dumpsters and three dump trucks to remove years of accumulated junk.

Regular community care continues with monthly patrols and cleanups of the Chippewa Marina and Playground, thanks to trash bags and pickers provided by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR).

Fundraising has been a big part of the neighborhood’s activities.

Residents sold $20 discount cards featuring deals at local Indian Lake restaurants and businesses, and two gun raffles were held, with proceeds benefiting the Outreach Center.

Two more raffles are planned for later this year.

Linda Scherm and Samantha Briggs joined News Director April King on Listen Up! on Sunday.

One of the highlights of the year was the Golf Cart Poker Run, which drew over 200 participants competing for prizes.

Looking ahead, the neighborhood is planning a “Thank You” party on October 11, featuring Nashville entertainer Tobi Lee.

Organizers will provide the meat, and attendees are asked to bring a covered dish.

The community will continue its partnership with Stokes Township for another neighborhood cleanup scheduled for October 18 and 19.

In addition, the neighborhood is in the process of becoming a nonprofit under the Indian Lake Development Corporation, which will help secure grants for future projects.

Upcoming projects include improvements to the playground and the potential addition of a handicapped-accessible kayak launch, promising even more good things for the Northside Neighborhood.
