On Wednesday, Bellefontaine Middle School’s 8th-grade students enjoyed a special field day at the Kirkmont Center, where several School Resource Officers swapped out their badges for fishing poles.
Officers Doug Walters, Isaac Chiles, John Godwin, Pat Tynan, and Patrol Sgt. Andy Kennedy volunteered their time to teach students how to fish.
They walked students through casting, gave advice on technique, and celebrated each catch, no matter the size.
The event gave students a chance to learn a new skill and connect with officers outside the school setting.
It’s part of the district’s ongoing effort to build trust and positive relationships between students and law enforcement.
Fishing turned out to be a highlight of the day, offering both fun and a break from routine, plus a few fish stories to take home.
