Ohio Hi-Point Board highlights 1×1 program and communications update

The Ohio Hi-Point Career Center Board of Education met in regular session on Wednesday evening, with the meeting being highlighted by a pair of presentations.

The first was regarding the Ohio Hi-Point 1×1 program, a one-week on, one-week off program that gives students hands-on experience in the job force. The second was regarding the communications department and providing an update.

Public Relations and Marketing Director Kelsey Webb speaks briefly about these presentations.

In other business, board members approved internship agreements with 11 businesses and organizations across the region, expanding opportunities for students to gain real-world experience in their career fields.

The new partners include:

  • Barr Home & Business Services, LLC, Urbana

  • Coughlin Ford of Marysville, Marysville

  • Environmental Management, Inc. (EMI), Plain City

  • Eufinger Law Offices, LLC, Marysville

  • Fade Aesthetics and Wellness, Grove City

  • Good Stuff Media Company, Marysville

  • Marysville Animal Care Center, Marysville

  • Neer’s Sand and Gravel, Bellefontaine

  • Shawn McAllister Architect, Inc., Marysville

  • Union County Family YMCA, Marysville

  • Union County Humane Society, Marysville

The board also approved employment for several certified substitutes for the 2025–2026 school year, pending receipt of required documentation. Substitutes include:

  • Lori Fetter, Substitute Teacher, effective October 23, 2025, through June 30, 2026 — $130 per day
  • Zachary Moore, Substitute Teacher, effective October 15, 2025, through June 30, 2026 — $130 per day
  • Heidi Quigley, Substitute Teacher, effective October 23, 2025, through June 30, 2026 — $130 per day
  • Jessica Rocha-Slemmons, Full-Time Substitute Teacher, effective October 6, 2025, through June 30, 2026 — $130 per day

In personnel updates, the board accepted the resignation of Robert Carder, HVAC-E Instructor, effective October 3, 2025.

Several generous donations were also approved to enhance Ohio Hi-Point’s programs and training opportunities.

These include:

  • 16 stethoscopes for the EMT and Allied Health programs, donated by Alyssa Tompkins of Urbana (estimated value: $119.84)
  • Pants, coats, boots, and helmets for career exploration training, donated by the Perry Township Fire Department of East Liberty (estimated value: $15,000)
  • Miscellaneous tools for the HVAC and Construction programs, donated by George Wilkins of Bellefontaine (estimated value: $255)

The next meeting is scheduled for November 19 at 7 p.m., and will be preceded by a Facilities and Grounds Committee meeting at 6 p.m.
