Ohio State Representatives Ty Mathews and Tim Barhorst, along with other members of the Ohio House of Representatives, are urging State Auditor Keith Faber to investigate potential fraud and abuse involving publicly funded childcare and home healthcare programs.

In a letter dated December 30, 2025, the lawmakers expressed concern that some programs may be mismanaged or exploited, following national reports of a $10 billion fraud network uncovered in Minnesota.

The legislators cited complaints from citizens who fear similar activity could be occurring in Ohio.

“These allegations raise reasonable concerns that highlight irregularities and suspicious activity that are discernible from a simple online search,” the lawmakers wrote. “Americans deserve to have faith that their tax dollars allocated to childcare and home healthcare for seniors and Ohioans with disabilities are being used appropriately.”

The letter requests immediate action to ensure programs are not being abused and that Ohio taxpayers can trust their dollars are being spent correctly.

Lawmakers also asked that any findings of misuse be referred for prosecution, if applicable, and that programs found to be manipulated undergo changes to prevent future issues.

The lawmakers emphasized the importance of transparency and accountability, saying such measures are critical to rebuilding public trust in the wake of fraud cases in other states.

“We stand ready to assist with this matter to the furthest extent of our legislative authority,” the letter concludes.
