Ohio’s minimum wage is scheduled to increase on January 1, 2025, to $10.70 per hour for non-tipped employees and $5.35 per hour for tipped employees.
This minimum wage will apply to employees of businesses with annual gross receipts exceeding $394,000.
As of 2024, the minimum wage stands at $10.45 per hour for non-tipped employees and $5.25 per hour for tipped employees.
The current rate applies to businesses with annual gross receipts over $385,000.
According to Constitutional Amendment II-34a, passed by Ohio voters in November 2006, the state’s minimum wage is adjusted annually based on the rate of inflation.
This adjustment is tied to the Consumer Price Index (CPI-W) for urban wage earners and clerical workers for the 12-month period prior to September.
The CPI-W index saw an increase of 2.4% from September 1, 2023, to August 31, 2024.
For employees working at smaller companies with annual gross receipts of $394,000 or less, and for 14- and 15-year-olds, the minimum wage will remain at $7.25 per hour starting January 1, 2025.
This rate is tied to the federal minimum wage, which can only be changed through an act of Congress and the President’s signature.
