Ohio students are showing gains in literacy, math, attendance and preparation for life after high school, according to the newly released 2026 Ohio School Report Cards.
Governor Mike DeWine, Lieutenant Governor Jim Tressel and Ohio Department of Education and Workforce Director Stephen Dackin announced the results Monday.
Statewide English language arts proficiency reached 62.2 percent, the highest level in five years.
The 2025-2026 school year was also the first full year Ohio schools implemented instruction based on the Science of Reading.
Math proficiency reached 56.4 percent, also a five-year high.
The state says literacy proficiency increased across all 10 demographic groups measured by the Department of Education and Workforce, while math proficiency increased in nine of the 10 groups.
Ohio also saw continued improvement in student attendance.
Chronic absenteeism fell from 25.1 percent to 23.9 percent over the past year, resulting in an estimated 3.7 million additional hours of learning for students.
The report cards also show continued progress in preparing students for college, careers, the workforce, and military service.
More than two-thirds of the Class of 2025 earned at least one of Ohio’s 11 postsecondary readiness measures.

Locally:
- Ohio Hi-Point Career Center received a 5-star rating, with five stars in Achievement, Career and Post-Secondary Readiness, Graduation Rate and Post-Program Outcomes.
- West Liberty-Salem received 4.5 stars, with five stars in Gap Closing, Graduation and College, Career, Workforce and Military Readiness.
- Graham received 4.5 stars, including five stars in Graduation and College, Career, Workforce and Military Readiness.
- Benjamin Logan received 4 stars, with five stars in Graduation and College, Career, Workforce and Military Readiness.
- Indian Lake received 4 stars, with five stars in Gap Closing and Graduation.
- Mechanicsburg received 4 stars, with four stars in Achievement, Progress, Gap Closing, and College, Career, Workforce and Military Readiness.
- Bellefontaine received 3.5 stars, with five stars in Graduation and four stars in Gap Closing.
- Riverside received 3.5 stars, with five stars in Graduation and College, Career, Workforce and Military Readiness.
- Triad received 3.5 stars, with five stars in Gap Closing and Graduation.
- Urbana received 3 stars, with three stars in Achievement, Gap Closing, Graduation and College, Career, Workforce and Military Readiness.
Several local schools also saw changes in individual categories compared with the previous report card.
Indian Lake improved by two stars in College, Career, Workforce and Military Readiness, while Benjamin Logan and West Liberty-Salem each improved by one star in that category.
The state says the overall improvements reflect continued efforts in literacy instruction, career preparation and reducing barriers to regular school attendance.
