The 2024 tax season is officially underway, with the IRS accepting federal tax returns until April 15.

Although Ohio is not included in the IRS Direct File program this year, residents still have several options for free tax filing.

The IRS Direct File program, which expanded to 25 states in 2024, allows taxpayers to file their returns directly with the IRS.

However, Ohio residents can still take advantage of the IRS Free File program, which is available for individuals making $84,000 or less.

In addition to the IRS options, Ohio has its own free filing platform called OH|TAX eServices.

Launched in September 2023, this service allows Ohio residents to file their state income taxes online for free.

During the 2024 filing season, OH|TAX eServices assisted over 161,000 taxpayers.

The system has also expanded to include several business taxes, such as sales tax and school district withholding, allowing business owners to file additional returns through the platform.

Tax season runs until April 15, 2025, Ohio residents are encouraged to file their returns before the deadline.
