OHP BOE Recognizes Students of the Month

The Ohio Hi-Point Board of Education met Wednesday for their April board meeting.

Tipping off the meeting the board recognized the 2022/2023 Students of the Month and their families at a dessert reception.

Mr. Caleb Lang, Treasurer, and corresponding Board Member presented the following Students of the Month:

After the short reception, the board returned to their meeting. Board member Scott Staley presented two members of the board with Certificates of Service. Board President Anne Reames has served for 35 years and John Stanford has served for 20 years.

The OHP BOE went on to approve the following agenda line items:

  • Approve the internship agreement with the following: BA Service & Repair, LLC, Bellefontaine; Dave’s Pharmacy, Marysville; Grismer Tire, Springfield; The Ohio Wire Harness LLC, Bellefontaine Rayburn Farms, St. Paris; Solomon’s Garage, West Liberty.
  • Out-of-State Professional Development, Rick Smith, Superintendent, to travel to Yorii, Tokyo, and Osaka, Japan, September 2-13, 2023 for business partnership meetings with Union County, Logan County, and the Ohio Governor’s office. Approximate cost: $13,000 to be paid by the general fund.
  • Courses of Study: Approve the following 2023/2024 Courses of Study as presented: Forensic Science New Academics (Prerequisite: Physical Science, Biology) Forensic Science is a hands-on advanced science course that applies scientific principles and techniques of biology, and physical science to solving crimes. This course emphasizes the collection, identification, and analysis of crime scene evidence and methods that link suspect, victim, and crime scene. Students will learn scientific protocols for analyzing a crime scene, conduct laboratory investigations to examine forensic evidence such as fingerprints, blood typing, hair and fiber examination, DNA analysis, and ballistics, and take on the role of a forensic pathologist to determine the cause of death. Case studies and current events will be explored. (1/2 credit per semester) Zoology New Academics (Prerequisite – Successful completion of Biology) Zoology is a hands-on, lecture/lab/project-based course. It will cover the evolutionary journey from sharks to fish to amphibians and finally reptiles. Students will learn the anatomy, reproduction, diet, and habitat, along with the taxonomy and animal behaviors of various animals. There will be many hands-on opportunities with various dissections of different types of animal species covered in class. Group presentations and individual presentations will help students develop public speaking skills needed in the workforce of today. (1/2 credit per semester)

  • Employment, Extended Days, 2023/2024 School Year: Laura Atwood, Marysville, 5 Extended Days. Tracy Flora, Bellefontaine, 5 Extended Days. Megan Mast, New Philadelphia, 5 Extended Days.
  • Extended Days Paid Approved Via Timesheet During June and July 2023: Justin Rigsby, Ada, 15 Extended Days ($379.77 daily rate).
  • Donation: Approve the donation of a 2015 Ford Police Interceptor to be used in the Criminal Justice lab at OHP from the Logan County Commissioners of Bellefontaine, OH. Estimated value: $1,500.
  • Resignations: Mark Butler, Bellefontaine, Academic Supervisor, effective July 31, 2023. Todd Hunt, Columbus Grove, Diesel Instructor, effective June 30, 2023.

Ohio Hi-Point Career Center will host Convocation on May 24, 2023, at 6:30 p.m. at Campbell Hill. In case of inclement weather, the location will be moved to the Bellefontaine High School gymnasium.
