One gift, $700K: Logan County’s ‘Local Gift Drop’ spotlights unique holiday finds

If every Logan County resident bought just one $20 local gift this holiday season, it could generate an estimated $700,000 boost for the local economy.

That’s the message from the Logan County Chamber of Commerce, which has launched a new initiative to spotlight small businesses across the county.

The Local Gift Drop is a weekly series highlighting different local businesses and the products they offer.

The goal is to provide residents with ideas for unique gifts while encouraging shopping within the community rather than at big box stores or online retailers.

Week one features a concrete goose available at the Depot in Lakeview, a decorative item that was popular in the 1990s and is now making a comeback.

Shoppers can follow the Chamber’s weekly posts to see the featured business and its products.

Interactions with the post will be monitored, and those who share a photo of a gift they purchased locally will be put into a weekly drawing, with the prize being a Chamber Choice Check.

Chamber President Ben Vollrath said the effort is intended to move beyond the overused “Shop Local” slogan and instead “Gift with Purpose,” highlighting unique finds available throughout Logan County:

The Local Gift Drop will continue each week during the holiday season.
