Three people were injured Saturday evening following a serious two-vehicle crash at the Clark–Champaign County line, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Troopers from the Springfield Post responded at approximately 5:46 p.m. on Saturday, February 7, to a crash at the intersection of E. County Line Road and Middle Urbana Road in Moorefield Township, Clark County.

A preliminary investigation revealed that a 2011 Nissan Murano, operated by Abdelmajid Kharji, 22, of Kettering, was traveling eastbound on E. County Line Road when it failed to yield at a stop sign at Middle Urbana Road. The Nissan entered the intersection and was struck by a 2016 Kia Sportage traveling southbound on Middle Urbana Road, driven by Faith Castiaux, 55, of Springfield.

Kharji sustained serious injuries and was transported by CareFlight air ambulance to Miami Valley Hospital. He was found at fault and cited for failure to stop/yield at a stop sign.

Castiaux and a passenger in the Kia were transported by ground ambulance to Mercy Health – Urbana Hospital with injuries believed to be non-life-threatening.

The crash caused significant damage at the intersection. One vehicle’s engine was reportedly ejected into the roadway, and a utility pole was damaged, prompting Ohio Edison crews to respond to the scene. Portions of E. County Line Road and Middle Urbana Road were closed for several hours while emergency crews worked and made repairs.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, speed and impairment are not believed to be factors in the crash. Troopers also noted there were no known witnesses at the time of the incident.

The crash remains under investigation by the Springfield Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
