A Sidney woman was arrested for OVI early Wednesday morning after police said she drove to the police department to pick up a friend who had just been arrested for OVI.

Police say the original traffic stop happened around 12:55 a.m.

The friend was arrested, while the other people in the vehicle, including 41-year-old Melissa Allen, were released at a nearby residence.

Officers told Allen to make sure someone sober picked up her friend.

About 2:30 a.m., Allen went to the police department to pick up the man.

Police say they later spotted her driving the same vehicle south on South Detroit Street.

An officer says Allen was weaving within her lane and appeared to be driving too fast.

She was eventually stopped near South Detroit Street and West Lake Avenue.

Police say Allen showed several signs of intoxication.

Police conducted field sobriety tests and reported several signs of impairment.

She was arrested for OVI and taken to the Bellefontaine Police Department where she blew a breath test showed a blood alcohol level of .107, just over the legal limit.

Allen was released to a sober driver and is scheduled to appear in court.
