The Bellefontaine Joint Recreation District Trustees met in regular session Monday night and said goodbye to longtime secretary Carol Robinson. President Pat Ellis introduced new secretary Jenny Graham and new trustee Lynda Holycross to the board. Ellis thanked Robinson for her years of service and welcomed the new members.

In his report, Parks Superintendent Kris Myers said that recreation league basketball wrapped up last week while the current area league basketball games are winding down. Myers said that he hopes to have the programs for spring and summer programs in the school by the beginning of next week.

Looking to summertime, Myers said that he is looking to fill several positions all over the city. Myers speaks about the upcoming needs:

The district’s budget, according to Myers, is expected to be sent to the Bellefontaine council to be considered for the first of the required three readings at the council’s second February meeting.

Myers updated the trustees on the progress of many maintenance updates being completed. The restrooms at Ratleff and Rutan Parks are being completed. Both facilities will be updated with new fixtures and will be made Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant. Myers hopes to have the work completed in time for the spring.

Additionally, he is working to have cameras installed at Rutan and later Oakland Parks. Myers said that police officers will have the ability to access the recordings from the cameras from their cruisers, which will speed up response to emergencies and criminal activity.

Myers also noted that the conceptual drawings for Howard Park are being reworked and he hopes to have them done soon so they can be evaluated and, ultimately, be presented to members of the community for their input. Myers talks about that process:

The next meeting will be held Tuesday, March 11, 2025, at 7:00 PM in the police department training room.
