The Peak of Hope Shelter is asking the community for monetary support as it faces growing demand for services for families and individuals experiencing homelessness.
Shelter officials say financial contributions are the most effective way to help cover operational expenses and provide essential support for guests.
Sarah Lewis, who leads the shelter, sat down with News Director April King on Sunday morning to discuss the shelter, upcoming fundraisers, and current needs.
Lewis continues to say that donations allow the shelter to support families, purchase necessary items, and maintain operations to help residents stabilize and transition into safe, long-term housing.
The Family Shelter accommodates two families at a time, who share a living room, kitchen, and bathroom, while the facility can also house three single women and six single men.
Most guests are employed when they arrive, and those who are not often find work within the first two and a half weeks.
Access to long-term, affordable housing remains the biggest challenge for single, unhoused individuals.
Peak of Hope is a 501(c)(3) organization supported entirely by local donations, material drives, and grants.
